Route 30 Promotions delivered a powerful one-two punch with their November 3rd presentation of Sunday Night Fights, Day of the Dead Edition at Mansion Elan. As they entered the venue, guests’ senses were heightened as they enjoyed sights and scents of the authentic Día de Los Muertos alter, paying homage to boxing great Genaro Hernandez and Mansion Elan proprietor, Phillip ‘Mr. Nice’ Liase. Over 1000 energized spectators were fixed on their feet as they witnessed knock-outs, upsets and a surprising draw during the 10-bout event.

Here’s how the punches landed- The professional debut bout for both Heavyweight fighters, Jelani Bitoy (1-0) soared to a quick victory over Jamar Fuller (0-1) with a 1st round TKO. Representing Birmingham, AL, Middleweight Kenny McNeil’s record advances to 5-1 with a show stopping 1st round knockout delivered to Earl Jackson that kept the crowd roaring and ready for more.

Standing on a strong amateur career Devin Goins (1-0) from Decatur, GA claimed his first win on the pro circuit by decision in the Cruiserweight professional debut match-up against New Jersey’s Cassanova Brooks (0-1), originally from Riverdale, GA.

Mauricio Ramos of Mexico successfully moved his record to 2-0 with 1st round KO against Joshua Hinnant (0-2) in the bout scheduled to go four rounds. Hometown hero and crowd favorite, Atlanta’s Bobby ‘Bam’ Hornsby (8-0-1) and Philly’s own Christian Steele went the distance during their 6-round Lightweight contest that resulted in a controversial draw.

In a showcase of some of the best amateur talent on the national stage, Georgia was well represented. On a fight card loaded with nationally ranked standouts, Elijah Shabazz, Decatur’s own Carlos Monroe, Heavyweight standout Hakim Lopez of Lithonia, GA and East Point, GA Super Heavyweight Frankie Bolton all posted impressive wins.

The evening’s entertainment line-up was equally impressive. Donning authentic Dia de Los Muertos face paint and his mariachi attire, Alberto Soler belted the Mexican National Anthem, "Mexicans, at the cry of war" followed by Jade Novah’s melodic delivery of the Star Spangled Banner. The Day of the Dead tribute continued during the final intermission of the evening with a special 10-count ceremony and inspirational notes delivered by Rev. Charles Walker (Antioch North). The crowd was abuzz as they recapped the night’s blow-by-blow action and eagerly anticipate the 2014 season opener of Sunday Night Fights, scheduled for February 23.
